What type of transponder systems do Kia vehicles use?

Kia vehicles built from the late 1990s onwards use transponder immobiliser systems for improved security. Earlier models commonly used Megamos type 13 fixed-code chips, while newer Kia vehicles often use rolling-code systems such as Texas Crypto 4D type 60 and Philips Crypto type 46 (T14) transponders.

These systems generate changing security codes every time the vehicle starts, requiring specialist equipment for key programming.

What should I do if my Kia has locked itself with the keys inside?

If your Kia has self-locked with the keys still inside, our locksmiths can safely regain entry using specialist non-destructive vehicle opening techniques. We unlock the vehicle without damaging the locks, windows, or bodywork, and emergency as well as out-of-hours assistance is available across Manchester and surrounding areas.

Can you replace my Kia key if all keys have been lost?

Yes. We can supply, cut, and program replacement Kia keys even in complete all-keys-lost situations. Our mobile auto locksmiths use specialist diagnostic and immobiliser equipment to program new keys directly to your Kia’s ECU, helping you avoid lengthy dealership delays and expensive vehicle recovery costs.
